This is the studio of illustrator Julia Rothman and her husband, filmmaker Jan Oliver Lucks. But it is also a place for all of us - to be creative, meet other fun people, draw, dance, talk, experiment. The space is located at 543 Union St at Nevins in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

Imagine speed dating but drawing instead of talking! Also nix the romance. We will sit in pairs across from each other and rotate after 6 minutes until everyone has been drawn. We will share all the portraits on the wall and see how everyone saw everyone. This is gonna be super chaotic in all the best ways! Seen Here’s Julia Rothman and Joshua David Stein will lead an immersive evening that blends performance, figure drawing, and conversation at The Morgan Library.
Inspired by the current exhibition Fantasy and Reality: The Art of Johan Tobias Sergel and the artist's muscular figures, the evening features the legendary bodybuilder and Mr. Olympia runner up Victor Martinez. As Martinez poses for a live drawing session, he will discuss his life as a professional bodybuilder.

Calling all singles! Tired of swiping on dating apps? Wish you were using your hands for something more exciting? We’ve got a solution! In collaboration with cartoonist Emily Fishman of How it Feels we are reimagining our signature Speed Portrait Night into a dating night!
DRAWN 2 U combines drawing with dating in a casual and more artistic way. We will sit in pairs across from each other and drawn each other rotating every 6 minutes until everyone has dran everyone. At the end of the session you get to take home all the portraits of yourself. Plus you’ll let us know if you were crushing on any of the other drawers and we’ll let you know if it’s a match.
We will host two nights in a row, one for straight folks* and one all-gender queer night. Come to one or both! (*trans inclusive of course)
Please bring loose drawing paper for this- not bound books- so we can hang all the portraits at the end. And whatever art supplies you want to use to make your portraits Artists of all levels welcome. Beer, wine and seltzer is complimentary. Ticket non-refundable.
