This is the studio of illustrator Julia Rothman and her husband, filmmaker Jan Oliver Lucks. But it is also a place for all of us - to be creative, meet other fun people, draw, dance, talk, experiment. The space is located at 543 Union St at Nevins in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

Imagine speed dating but drawing instead of talking! Also nix the romance. We will sit in pairs across from each other and rotate after 6 minutes until everyone has been drawn. We will share all the portraits on the wall and see how everyone saw everyone. This is gonna be super chaotic in all the best ways! Please bring loose paper for this- not bound books so we can hang all the portraits at the end. And whatever supplies you want. Beer and seltzer is complimentary. Ticket non-refundable.

This session features Martial Vivot, the master barber and owner of Martial Vivot Salon on 54th Street in Manhattan, known to The New York Times as “The Gentleman’s Barber” and trusted by many of the city’s most powerful figures.
As Martial gives a haircut to our host Joshua David Stein, participants will have the rare opportunity to sketch the scene in real time, capturing the gesture and intimacy of the moment. Between snips and strokes, Joshua will interview Martial about his craft, his clients, and the timeless art of the perfect cut.
