This is the studio of illustrator Julia Rothman and her husband, filmmaker Jan Oliver Lucks. But it is also a place for all of us - to be creative, meet other fun people, draw, dance, talk, experiment. The space is located at 543 Union St at Nevins in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

Figure Assembly + No Boys Allowed
at the Museum In Spite of Everything $15.00
Join us for a special off-site drawing and painting session at the Museum in Spite of Everything, where we’ll be working inside the current exhibition, No Boys Allowed. (Despite its name, this event is open to all genders.)
The exhibition pays tribute to the most influential women’s sneakers and the stories behind them, celebrating the athletes, designers, and cultural trailblazers who—in spite of everything—made their mark.
The museum itself is an immersive space, featuring a room staged like an intimate girl’s bedroom—the kind you wish you’d had—complete with a vanity, a large circular bed, and other unexpected scenes. It offers a wealth of rich details, objects, and atmospheres to draw and paint.
Bring your favorite materials (just no India ink) and spend time sketching and painting in this special space. All levels welcome.
Location: Museum In Spite of Everything 84 S 6th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11249

Desserts and Drawing: A No Waste Bake-off/Drawing Night (and tasting!) $30
From Progressive Hedonist x The Good Batch Bakery x Fan Fan Doughnuts in support of Project Eats.
Join us for an evening of drawing, and tasting, where the still life is entirely edible and highlights no-waste practices. Cookies, doughnuts and cake will be baked using whole ingredients and thoughtful techniques that leave nothing behind. The sweets will be styled into a gorgeous tabletop display from Anna Gordon at The Good Batch bakery and Fany Gerson at Fan Fan Doughnuts for us to sketch and paint.
We’ll spend the first part of the evening drawing this one-night-only dessert landscape, working at our own pace and with our favorite materials. Then, we acknowledge what we’ve created, we celebrate, and the still life becomes our dessert, shared and eaten together.
This is part of a series we do with Dana Cowin of Progressive Hedonist, which is committed to fighting the climate crisis through food and joy. 100% of your ticket sale will go to support Project Eats which transforms vacant lots into vibrant farms, empty spaces into gathering places and neighbors into family.

Show & Draw with Julia $25
Bring an object no larger than a loaf of bread, something curious, ordinary, meaningful, or mysterious. We’ll begin by briefly introducing the objects we’ve brought, then settle into a fast-paced, drawing round.
Each object will get drawn by each artist- seven minutes to sketch, then pass your object to the next person. Each object gets drawn on its own piece of paper. At the end of the night, we’ll hang all the drawings together arranged by object to see how a single thing can multiply into many visions. Every object will be interpreted again and again, through different eyes, styles, and marks.
All materials and skill levels welcome. Bring your object and your favorite drawing materials. Ticket non-refundable.
