This is the studio of Julia Rothman. But it is also a place for all of us - to be creative, meet other fun people, draw, dance, talk, experiment. The space is located at 543 Union St at Nevins in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

City Harvest Drawing Fundraiser with Dana Cowin

Join us for a creative evening highlighting City Harvest, the amazing nonprofit rescuing food all across NYC to help feed those in need. They'll be bringing a market bag and all of the food that one person can pick up for free at a City Harvest mobile farmers market — a colorful still life for all of us to sketch and paint. We’ll also be joined by the brilliant Dana Cowin (Progressive Hedonist), who has been on the Board of City Harvest for 30 years, who will briefly describe the mission of City Harvest and might just whip up a quick something delicious using ingredients straight from the cart. Artists are encouraged to make artwork to spread the word about what City Harvest does. Dana will make a donation to City Harvest on behalf of each artist who attends. Bring your own drawing supplies.

Seen Here: Balloon Artist $25

Capture the twist of latex in real time! Join us for a delightfully inflated evening where journalist and raconteur Joshua David Stein sits down for a live interview with a master balloon artist Todd Neufeld of the Twisted Balloon Company — yes, one of those amazing humans who can twist a giraffe, a sword, or a whole scene out of rubber and air. While they chat about the surprisingly fascinating world of balloon sculpting — from birthday parties to art galleries — we’ll be sketching the whole thing. Bring your own supplies. This is part of Seen Here, a new drawing night series featuring unexpected subjects. Each event offers a chance to hear from someone with a unique craft or story — and to draw them as they work or speak. It’s part interview, part figure drawing session, and always something a little different. Please bring your own supplies. Ticket non-refundable.
